Dragon Age: The Veilguard Combat System Explained

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is gearing up to be an absolute banger, and the combat system is looking like it’s gonna be wild. Let’s break this down.

First off, light and heavy attacks are the bread and butter of every character. Light attacks are your quick jabs, and heavy attacks are those chunky, satisfying smashes. Easy enough, right?

Classes

Now, if you’re playing a warrior, you’re gonna love this. You can parry incoming attacks and stagger enemies. It’s like, you’re a wall that can hit back! And get this, they’ve got a Spartan Kick ability. Remember 300? Yeah, that kind of kick. Boom! Foes go flying.

Mages are a bit different. They can’t parry but can throw up a shield. Magic shield, guys. Plus, they’ve got this sick Fire Wall ability. Picture a blazing barrier just roasting anything that comes close. Mages are all about controlling the battlefield.

Rogues, on the other hand, have a larger parry window. So, if your timing isn’t perfect, no worries, you’ve got a bit more leeway. Rogues are about agility and precision. Get in, deal damage, and get out. Classic rogue stuff.

Each party member can have three out of five abilities equipped at any time. You can command them with an action wheel or shortcuts. It’s all about customizing your squad to fit your playstyle. And let’s not forget, increasing your relationship with them earns you Skill Points to unlock more abilities.

Skill Trees

Every class has an expansive skill tree loaded with passives, combat abilities, traits, ability upgrades, and more. Each class can branch out into three unique specializations. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all deal; you can really tailor your characters.

Companions will generally fight on their own unless you give them specific commands. But here’s the cool part: specific companions have synergies when paired together. It’s all about finding those perfect combos, or you can get creative and discover new synergies on your own.

Now, this Rook class? Insane. You can create two weapon loadouts and switch between them on the fly. Imagine being a Mage Rook, switching from a magical staff to magical daggers. It’s all about using those ability synergies to wreck your enemies.
