Mario and Luigi: Brothership Announced for Switch

The Mario and Luigi brothers are ready to return for a brand-new adventure called Mario & Luigi: Brothership. After almost nine years since the first installment of the series, a new Mario and Luigi game will arrive on Nintendo Switch on November 7, 2024. I have to say, the game, as revealed on today’s Nintendo Direct, seems more than exciting.

Its developers, AlphaDream, went bankrupt in 2019, leaving a big question mark over the series. Nintendo hasn’t revealed the new development team yet, but given their track record, we can expect some top-tier talent behind this project.

Nintendo describes Brothership as a “seafaring adventure that unfolds over mysterious islands”. The game kicks off on Shipshape Island, which is part ship, part island. Mario and Luigi will be walking their way through the vast world of Concordia, with islands that range from tropical rainforests to bustling cities.

Nintendo’s official statement has us all aboard for this island-hopping RPG adventure. Here’s what they had to say: “The brothers are back for a brand-new entry in the Mario & Luigi series, where they set sail on Shipshape Island to navigate the vast world of Concordia. Play as the mustachioed pair and explore islands that range from tropical rainforests to bustling cities. Along the way, meet new friends to help you on your journey and encounter familiar faces from the Mushroom Kingdom like Peach and Bowser.”

What’s exciting is how Nintendo plans to mix up the gameplay. The bond between Mario and Luigi will be key to saving the day. You’ll need to use Bros. Moves to get past obstacles and powerful Bros. Attacks to dominate in battles. I can’t wait to get my hands on this dynamic twist on turn-based combat. It sounds like they’re really stepping up their game.

One of the best parts of any Mario & Luigi game is the characters we meet along the way. Brothership promises to bring in new friends to help on your journey and some familiar faces from the Mushroom Kingdom. Peach and Bowser are confirmed, and who knows who else might pop up? Toad? Yoshi? Oh boy I can’t wait actually. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below!
